Apache Indian - Move Over. Ameish Is Here.

For years, my friends and I would discuss the pathetic state of Indian hip hop, noting that the only Indian rappers/MCs of note were British artists  Panjabi MC and less so, Apache Indian aka Steve Kapur (you can admit you own “No Reservations”). That may all change.

A few months ago, my mother sent me a video of Ameish Govindarajan performing his single “Save Ourselves”. When I first watched it with her, I immediately dismissed it as another Indian kid trying to have street cred, but as I kept watching this video, it became clear the 25 year old definitely had talent. This should not have surprised. I know the Govindarajan family and they are all immensely musically oriented and talented. Ameish’s newly married sister is a eclectic singer who has performed at numerous venues in Los Angeles. For those of you who haven’t seen the video yet, the video is below.
